How long is the wait for a civil wedding?
The law is clear: at least one month from submitting the declaration of no impediments to marriage. But that is the minimum, not the answer to “when will we get married”. That depends on the calendar of the specific office, and calendars differ more than most couples expect – because for a Saturday in high season you compete with all the other couples from the same town.

What the date depends on
The statutory month counts from the declaration, not from the booking. The month runs from the day you submit the declaration of no impediments at the office – not from a phone call about the date and not from your first visit.
A Saturday costs you waiting time. Friday afternoons and Saturdays from May to September are the first to go. The same office that has a Tuesday slot in five weeks may have no Saturday in June for half a year.
A wedding outside the office is a separate queue. A ceremony outdoors or anywhere other than the office is possible, costs 1000 zł and requires the venue to ensure safety and dignified conditions – and the office must have someone to send there, which usually means fewer available dates.
A foreign partner lengthens the preparation, not the queue. The waiting period is the same, but the documents – birth certificate copy, certificate of legal capacity to marry, sworn translations – take weeks to collect. They usually decide when you can realistically submit the declaration.
What to prepare so you don’t lose your date
- ID card or passport – both of you.
- Stamp duty 84 zł for drawing up the marriage certificate.
- Two adult witnesses of any nationality.
- Birth certificate copies are usually not needed – the office retrieves them from the civil status register.
- For an outdoor wedding: an extra 1000 zł and agreeing the venue with the office.
