The procedure for entering into marriage at the Civil Registry Office in Chełmża begins with booking a date. The couple should submit a declaration of no impediments to marriage, which constitutes the formal beginning of the procedure. From the moment this document is submitted, a statutory waiting period of at least one month applies.

Each party must present a valid identity document, which is a passport or ID card. Polish citizens usually do not need to provide copies of birth certificates, as the Civil Registry Office in Chełmża obtains them directly from the civil registry.
